Photonic Device Physics Laboratory(PDPL) in Yonsei University have studied comprehensively on the optical fibers and its application.
Optical fiber sensors are the one of our major interest, and we are now especially focused on strain, temperature, chemical sensors with the Long Period fiber Grating(LPG) and specialty fibers such as Photonic Crystal Fibers(PCF), Hollow Optical Fibers(HOF), and etc.
For strain and temperature sensor, we have fabricated the LPG fiber by exposing the tilted SMF to CO2 laser and by UV curing the polymer periodically inside the HOF. For chemical sensors, we applied the special hollow core PCF to see the absortion band or evanescent field interaction of chemical samples.
Since we recently started to run our fiber Drawing Tower(DT), we are hopefully sure that we can design and fabricate the special fibers for optical sensor system.
Now, we are broadening our research on this field and struggling to be a pioneer in the up-to-date optical fiber sensor studies.
