The Non-Destructive Testing Research Area is focused on developing and applying instrumentation to non-destructive testing of aerospace materials and structures. This includes defect detection and location, measurement of strain, characterization of vibration and the measurement of associated parameters such as shape and position.

The OptoNDT Laboratory is the base for sensors based on optics. We are currently developing strain measurement sensors based on shearography and on fibre Bragg gratings (FBG) and are also applying FBG sensors to measurement applications in structural health monitoring.
